The ESA Research Network on Ageing in Europe (RN1)

Ageing is an area of increasing interest to sociologists and social policy researchers, stimulated by awareness of the rising proportion of older people, the projected costs of pensions and health care, earlier ages of retirement, the 'vertical' growth of families, changing patterns of consumption and of lifestyles. Societies have responded in differing ways to population ageing, making ageing and intergenerational relations an exciting and important area in which to exchange information and ideas across countries. 

International comparative research on these issues is vital, and this new network aims to facilitate contacts and collaboration among those with research interests in ageing.
